Getting started

Using SendWP with GiveWP

Connect SendWP from GiveWP's email settings in one click, so donation receipts and reminders reach your donors.

Donation receipts matter. They're how donors know their gift arrived, and often what they need at tax time. GiveWP recommends SendWP for exactly that, and it can install and connect SendWP for you from its own settings.

Connect SendWP from GiveWP

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Donations → Settings.
  2. Open the Emails tab. You'll land on Email Settings.
  3. Find the SendWP row and click Connect with SendWP.
  4. GiveWP installs and activates the SendWP plugin for you (or just activates it, if it's already installed), then takes you to SendWP.
  5. Create your SendWP account, or log in if you have one, then choose a plan and check out. The steps are the same as in Getting started.
  6. You'll come straight back to GiveWP's email settings when you're done.

You need to be able to manage GiveWP's settings to do this. Site administrators can.

Because you connected through GiveWP, it's credited as the partner that referred you. There's nothing to enter.

Check it's connected

Back on Donations → Settings → Emails, the SendWP row now says “SendWP plugin activated.” with a link to Access your SendWP account.

If it says that email sending is currently disabled, click the link in that note to go to Tools → SendWP and turn sending back on.

Then finish setting up with Authenticating your domain. It's the step that does the most for getting your receipts into donors' inboxes.

Which GiveWP emails go through SendWP

All of them. GiveWP sends its emails through WordPress, and SendWP routes everything WordPress sends: donation receipts, recurring donation reminders, admin notifications, password resets and the rest of your site's email. You'll see each one in your email log.

Disconnecting

GiveWP's Disconnect SendWP button disconnects your site from SendWP and deactivates the SendWP plugin, so your site goes back to sending email the way it did before. To pause SendWP without deactivating anything, use the switch on Tools → SendWP instead.

Disconnecting your site doesn't cancel your subscription. To cancel, use Billing for your site in your SendWP dashboard.

Trouble connecting?

If the button stops at “Connecting” or shows an error, your site may not be able to install plugins (some hosts turn that off). Install SendWP yourself from Plugins → Add New Plugin, then connect from Tools → SendWP. Still stuck? Email support@sendwp.com.
