Your email

Reading your email log

Find any email your site sent, understand its status and see exactly what happened to it.

“Did that email actually go out?” Your email log answers that. Every email your site sends through SendWP is recorded, with its status and a timeline of what happened to it. Your log keeps at least the last 30 days of email.

Open your log

  1. Log in to your SendWP dashboard.
  2. Open your site.
  3. Go to Emails. This is your Email Logs page, newest emails first.

Each row shows the email's Status, Subject, From and To addresses and the Date it was sent. A paperclip means it had attachments.

Find an email

  • Search. Type in Search emails... to match the recipient, the sender or the subject. Searching for a customer's email address is the quickest way to answer “did they get it?”
  • Filter by status. Use All Statuses to show only, say, the bounced or failed emails.

What each status means

Status What it means
Pending SendWP has the email and is getting it ready to go.
Sent The email went out.
Bounced The receiving server wouldn't take it, usually because the address doesn't exist or the mailbox is full.
Failed It couldn't be sent. Open the email and its Reason tells you why.
Blocked The address or domain is on your own block list, so we didn't send it.

An extra icon next to the status means the recipient marked the email as spam.

Why an email failed goes deeper into bounces, blocks and failed emails.

Look inside an email

Click any email to open it. You'll see:

  • Email Details: the subject and every address it was sent to and from, including Reply-To, CC and BCC.
  • The email itself: its HTML and plain-text versions, as your site sent them, and any attachments.
  • Status: the delivery status and, when something went wrong, the reason.
  • Timeline: when we received it, when it was sent, and anything that happened after, like a bounce or a spam complaint.

Attachment files are kept for about a week. After that, the log still lists them but marks them as deleted.

“Sent” doesn't mean “in the inbox”

Sent means SendWP sent the email out; if the receiving server turns it away, the email shows as Bounced instead. What happens after a server takes it, inbox, promotions tab or spam folder, is up to the recipient's mail provider, and no sender can see it. If people say your emails land in spam, see Landing in spam.

Your overview

Your site's Overview page sums up the log: Emails This Cycle, your Delivery Rate and Bounce Rate, how much of your plan you've used, and a chart of sent, bounced and failed emails over the last 30 days.

Don't see an email at all?

If an email isn't in your log, it never reached SendWP. In WordPress, go to Tools → SendWP and check that SendWP is connected and enabled. Emails not arriving covers the rest.
